New Diagnostic Criteria Will Put More Children on Drugs

A lot of educational professionals in the UK are very concerned about the new DSM 5 criteria which will undoubtedly widen the overprescription of psychotropic drugs in an inappropriate way for schoolchildren.
Phrases like,"Sub-clinical normal variation autism" indicates the power of the drug industry and researchers funded partly by them to influence the practice of medical professionals.Broad swaithes of our children in schools are likely to be overdiagnosed, indeed in one of my high schools six children in one year group have been diagnosed with a redefined Bi-polar disorder. This is neither realistic or ethically acceptable and is pathologising normally healthy children unnecessarily.
